Groundhog Day
|
| When February rolls around | [roll hands round each other] |
| With winter winds and snow, | | |
| When an icy chill is in the air | [pretend to shiver] |
| And I'm cold from head to toe, | | |
| It's nice to think of Groundhog Day | [tap forehead] |
| When people tell us tales | |
| Of a furry little animal | [bend and pretend to pet a small animal] |
| Who never, ever fails | |
| To pop out of his cozy den | |
| On February Two | [hold up 2 fingers] |
| (I'm quite surprised. I'd stay indoors | | |
| With better things to do | [point finger and shake it as though scolding] |
|
| Than watch to see if the morning sun | [spread fingers and make "sun face"with hands next to cheeks] |
| Was rising in the East, | |
| And if I saw the shadow of | look behind you] |
| A rather sleepy beast | [yawn and stretch] |
| I also wonder what they'd say | pretend to whisper] |
| If on this special date, | |
| That groundhog turned off his alarm | [rotate hand as though turning switch]
|
| And chose to hibernate. | [palms together next to cheek, pretend to sleep] |
| Then how would we know if spring was near | [shrug shoulders] |
| Or if wild winds would blow | puff up cheeks and blow] |
| To bring us six more weeks of chill | <>[pretend to shiver] |
| With storms of ice and snow? | |
| I surely hope that furry beast | [bend and pretend to pet small animal] |
| Will keep his weather date. | point to wrist as though pointing to a wristwatch] |
| We've had enough of winter now-- | |
| It's time to celebrate! | [clap hands] |
